You’ve really got to hand it to conservatives for their blatant chutzpah. They used to complain that “ObamaCare” was doomed because people would just wait until they got sick and then sign up. That was a lie, of course, as they are now acknowledging in backhanded fashion.

See, now “conservatives now want you to be outraged about the fact that the Affordable Care Act creates limited open-enrollment periods each year to prohibit precisely that kind of free riding.” Brian Beutler has the details.

Meanwhile, Ezra Klein has an article on Vox today entitled, “The right can’t admit that Obamacare is working.”

Today, the right struggles with Obamacare Derangement Syndrome: the acute inability to see Obamacare as anything but a catastrophic failure that the American people will soon reject. For those suffering from ODS, all bad Obamacare news is good news, and all good Obamacare news is spin. In this world, delays of minor provisions in the law prove that the entire structure is collapsing, while surges of millions of people enrolling in insurance don’t prove anything at all.

He goes on to say:

The irony of this is that Obamacare’s successes are, in many cases, conservatism’s successes. The individual mandate is a conservative idea — and it’s working. Liberals were skeptical that private insurers would compete on price even absent a public option — but they are. High-deductible health plans are a longtime conservative solution for health costs — and Obamacare is spreading them far and wide. But conservatives can’t take credit for any of this, much less build on it.

Everyday conservatives box themselves a little further into their corner.

The Nevada GOP dropped gay marriage and abortion from their platform:

Republicans who sat on the platform committee said they decided not to deal with social issues this year because the U.S. Supreme Court and lower courts have weighed in and it doesn’t make sense for the party of “personal freedom” to have the government or the political party get involved in people’s personal lives.

“The issue was how can we back out of people’s personal lives,” said Dave Hockaday of Lyon County, who sat on the platform committee. “We need to focus on issues where we can have an impact.”

My, oh my. The Nevada GOP just laid down their arms in the Great Culture War.

And furthermore…

It is well past debate that a majority in the Teaparty have overtones of the old south, revisionist history and a pervasive Dominionist ideology. Here is another example of the lunacy of these cock-a-roaches. I’ll bet it galled this guy to insanity that an African American is president. And without a legitimate birth certificate to boot.

I live in Overland Park, Ks. As the crow flies, I live about 5 miles away. I’m Jewish. My children attended the  preschool at the JCC as well as many years of day camp. If god was messing with Darwin by creating the Platypus, then maybe he was messing with this assassin because all of the victims were not Jewish. In an effort not to offend, I will keep the remainder of my thoughts on this private.

Just another blatant example of the pathology of the right.  This is in addition to something I read yesterday which was an article about the latest creative effort to suppress voters. Closing the bathroom in polling stations during business hours. They must have read  Catch-22. Major major could only be seen when he wasn’t in. And you can only pee when it’s closed.
