Domestic Terrorists?

Yeah, I think that describes the Bundy militias pretty well.

A Democratic congressman from Nevada said in a letter this week that his constituents have reported the armed militia supporting rancher Cliven Bundy have set up checkpoints to verify the residency of anybody passing through.

Not content with restricting freedoms, they go for the personal threats against a US Senator.

Capitol Police in Washington said they are investigating threatening statements made against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Sounds like domestic terrorists to me.

UPDATE: It looks like there’s trouble in paradise due to some personality conflicts on the front lines:

In a YouTube interview with some super-patriot named Blaine Cooper,* who asked Mr. Bear for a “sitrep.” That is SO AUTHENTICALLY MILITARY and COOL! The sitrep was that Booda Bear was not especially impressed by Rhodes’s “high value intelligence” — which turns out to have come from an anonymous tip line. Bear also emphasized that such defections are bad for the tactical situation, since “this is a battle front in some sense of the word and to remove them is kind of ah — that’s some yellow cur — ya know, spineless backbone, piece of shit maneuvering right there.”

Booda Bear does not hold the Oath Keepers in very high regard.

UPDATE 2: It just keeps getting better. I’m waiting for the shooting war to begin between the two nutball factions.

The Oath Keepers took to their website and accused Bundy’s top Security crew, Booda Bear, Ryan Paine & Jerry ‘somebody’ of being FBI infiltrators.  This happened roughly 24 hours after Bundy’s top security crew, Booda Bear & his two underlings, Ryan & Jerry, kicked the Oath Keepers off the ranch and accused them of: “stealing’ being “deserters,” “traitors,” committing “treason of the highest order” and learning that Ryan Paine said, on video, that the Oath Keepers were “lucky [they’re] not getting shot in the back’ for deserting the Bundy battlefield.”

They love this country so much that they want to lead an armed insurrection against it.

  2. A Daily Kos article makes the point that labeling such folks “domestic terrorists” is bi-partisan. They’re domestic terrorists regardless of whether a Democrat or Republican is president. Only the wing nuts think otherwise.

      Dear Faithful America member,

In a speech Saturday to the National Rifle Association, Sarah Palin said that “if I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.” The audience roared with approval.

This is what we’ve come to in America: A former candidate for vice-president can equate torture and Holy Baptism, and one of the nation’s most powerful political lobbies erupts into cheers and applause.

As usual, Palin’s remarks are already making international headlines, once again portraying Christianity as a religion of hatred and violence. But this time, let’s show just how many Christians are appalled by Palin’s twisted misrepresentation of our faith.

We’re launching a statement to the media, denouncing her remarks and setting the record straight about baptism, torture, and violence. Will you add your name?

Read and sign our statement: For Christians, torture is not a joke…

      Thanks!

      — Michael and Aaron

  3. In other news, it’s getting increasingly difficult to justify an argument for capitol punishment these days, not that there were ever any compelling reasons for it since about 1910 or so. But now advocates must admit that along with sanctioning state sponsored murder of innocent civilians…

…they’re also fine having their executions with a side of torture as well…

Horrifying. The drugs came from, literally, the rear door of some garage in England. The OK legislature impeached the Judges who tried to stop this from happening. The Governor should be imprisoned for her insistence in going thru with this barbaric act of depravity.

    The Onion is fantastic.

  5. Did everybody catch the batshit conspiracy theories about Benghazi over at bfv? Mighty big whoppers being churned out over there. Why, it’s almost like they’re unaware of the several bipartisan investigations which have cleared the administration of any conspiratorial wrongdoings. They simply push the fingers in their ears to the second knuckle and chant “Benghazi!” even louder. Keep it up guys, you got a winner there, I just know it.

Can you imagine what these chuckleheads would be saying if Obama were president on 9/11? And Hillary was the one who ignored the PDB “Bin Laden determined to struck in the U.S.?

    • meursault1942 says:

That thread is fantastic. Well, the comments are. The thread itself is a bit of a letdown–when Mark Noonan says, “Here’s my theory of what happened,” you expect some really good crazy, but in this instance, he just lazily relays the same talking points we’ve been hearing the whole time. Boooo-ring! At least Amazona immediately shows up to relay the crazy-ass gun-running theory.

This bit from Spook, though, is absolutely precious in its cluelessness. It’s practically a child’s letter to Santa Claus:

imagine yourself being part of the opposition party on Capital Hill where your opponents just lie to your face. You know they’re lying; they know you know they’re lying, and they do it anyway. How do you get anything of substance done in that atmosphere?

Right. Because Republicans are all about getting stuff done and not mindless obstructionism. Stop laughing! They’re all about substance, too. I said stop laughing, dammit! And they haven’t been lying nonstop, either! Stop laughing, I said! They’re very concerned about honesty, which is why they vehemently opposed the endless lies the Bush administration used to drag this country to an unwanted, unnecessary war that killed a lot more than 4 people. OK, now you’re moving from laughing to outright guffawing–knock it off!

No wonder that guy’s an Oath Keeper. He’s a credulous moron.

My challenge still stands: Find a conservative position that isn’t based on a lie. Thus far, nobody’s been able to do so. It doesn’t look like anybody will anytime soon, either.

“Booda Bear does not hold the Oath Keepers in very high regard.”

Not that Booda Bear is a sane person, but sane people generally don’t hold the Oath Keepers in very high regard. Retired Spook is an Oath Keeper. Kinda says it all, doesn’t it? The Oath Keepers also pop up in this amazing dispatch, Life at the Bundy Ranch, Uncensored:

“Is there really a black man in the house?” A lone “whoo” goes up from the folding chairs. “You’re with the media, right?” The cameraman nods, and the singer returns his focus to the folding chairs. “So, are we racists here today? That’s how they’re trying to spin this one — this is good. Channel 13 came at me the other day — a cute little blonde, of course. They sent her at me, y’know, go get the story! Go get the radical…” The generator cuts out, silencing the mic, and the story about how he isn’t a racist is lost.

A militia member with the group Oath Keepers named Mark, who drove in from out of state by way of Zion National Park (“which was absolutely beautiful — you should go”), offers to explain to me the truth behind public land management.

“The assumption is that the BLM is part of the federal government. But we need to check the facts on that one. The BLM doesn’t work for the government: they work for the United Nations. They might as well be wearing blue helmets. If we find out there’s money being exchanged between Harry Reid and the Chinese government, no one should be surprised.”

A self-trained lawyer tells me the same. He adds that Bar-certified lawyers, like the ones who prosecuted Bundy, have sworn loyalty to the British government, whose statutes encourage sex with clients. “That’s what they do with all their clients.”

Ladies and gentleman, your conservative grassroots!

“I’m waiting for the shooting war to begin between the two nutball factions.”

As I saw somebody say elsewhere, all we need to do to set off said shooting war is light an M-80 and slingshot it into their little settlement one night. The rest takes care of itself.
