X-Rays Reveal Nothing

In 1934, Dizzy Dean was the best pitcher in the National League, winning 30 games and leading the St. Louis Cardinals to the World Series against the Detroit Tigers. In the fourth game of the Series, Dean stood on first base as a pinch runner. The batter hit a grounder to Tigers second baseman Billy Rogell, who tagged second and threw to first to turn a double play. Instead, the ball hit Dean square in the head as he dashed toward second base. He was carried off the field and sent to a nearby hospital to be examined for a concussion. The next day, the Detroit newspaper headlines read, “Dean’s Head Examined: X-Rays Reveal Nothing.”

I was reminded of that story yesterday with the news that the House Of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence released its final report on the 2012 attack on the US diplomatic compound in Benghazi, after a two-year investigation.

Debunking a series of persistent allegations hinting at dark conspiracies, the investigation of the politically charged incident determined that there was no intelligence failure, no delay in sending a CIA rescue team, no missed opportunity for a military rescue, and no evidence the CIA was covertly shipping arms from Libya to Syria.

In other words, move along, nothing to see here. All the Republican blathering about a vast conspiracy and coverup? Er, um, never mind.

Of course, our dear conservative friends still don’t even know that the Republican-led Intelligence Committee finally admitted there was no such thing. This is because the report merited all of about 15 seconds on Fox News. In other words, if conservatives blinked, they missed the results.

How much do you want to bet that the next book by Matt Margolis and Mark Noonan contains more than one chapter lambasting President Obama over his handling of Benghazi (and nary a word about the actual findings)?

By the way, the Cardinals won the ’34 World Series in seven games. Dizzy and his brother, Paul, won all four games for the “Gas House Gang,” the only time that’s ever been done.

Actually conservatives on the whole are a hell of a lot more informed about what’s going on than liberals and that is why they drag their ass off the couch and vote in mid terms. It’s always a good idea to investigate the murder of an Ambassador especially when that Ambassador is in a lawless region and left largely unprotected on the 9/11 anniversary. I am glad this investigation is over and will note that the findings are not exactly something of which Democrats should gloat over. While the findings show that there was no coordinated cover up, they do prove that the administration and the SecState was indifferent to the security concerns and bureaucratically incompetent. Not exactly something to be proud of. The following is the best summary I have read:

The conclusion from this report that has been oddly overlooked by the left is the HPSCI’s finding that the State Department failed to provide their personnel in Benghazi with adequate security. Despite repeated warnings about the deteriorating security situation in Benghazi from Amb. Chris Stevens, State failed to provide him with adequate protection. If the left is taking this report at face value and accepting its conclusions in whole, they must also acknowledge that Hillary Clinton’s State Department allowed the first American ambassador killed in the line of duty since 1979 to die as a result of negligence and bureaucratic incompetence.

And just to make a demographic point in rebuttal to the “old white” comment made earlier regarding the mid terms. The “old” vote is growing more than the “young” vote across all ethnic lines as Americas population ages, and “old” people of all stripes tend to be more conservative, more informed and more inclined to vote. That is something that should concern all of you.

Well my, that’s some pretty diligent Monday morning quarter backing you’re engaged in here, Cluster. It’s inspiring to see you so concerned with a couple of American lives tragically taken by terrorism overseas. Lets revisit the outrage you spent over the 3,000+ American lives taken on US soil after the Bush Administration received warnings from the Clinton administration about the growing menace of al Qaeda, culminating with the PDB ‘al Qaeda Determined to Strike In The US’. Wait. No outrage then from Cluster? No demands for pubic inquiries for who knew what, when? No. Cluster was busy happily contributing to a website called “Blogs For Bush”.

    • But Cluster, what about Dizzy Dean? The newspapers said his head was empty! Not that you would know about empty heads…

I made no reference to “white”. Why do you have to interject race into everything? Is it a pathology? You might want to examine that, sparky.

What are reactions here to the Fergusun decision? Bad situation, but I think the grand jury got it right. Not only wasn’t there enough evidence to indict, much of the evidence supported Wilson’s story.
